The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Business Services Assistant to join our team at Whakapapa to support our Finance and IT teams.
In this role, you will help keep our Business Services operations running smoothly by completing weekly Point of Sale (POS) cashing-up and reconciliation, assisting with finance administration, and providing Level 1 IT support to staff across the organisation. You’ll troubleshoot common technology issues, respond to support requests, and escalate more complex matters to the Finance team or IT Specialist when needed.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who enjoys a mix of admin, systems, and problem-solving, and wants exposure to both finance and IT in a unique alpine environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Finance Support
- Completing weekly POS cashing-up and reconciliations with accuracy and attention to detail
- Identifying discrepancies, trends, or process gaps and escalating where needed
- Supporting accounts receivable/payable and general finance administration
- Assisting with continuous improvement of finance processes
IT Support
- Providing Level 1 IT support (Windows, Mac, printers, networks, devices)
- Troubleshooting common issues like logins, password resets, and MFA
- Managing and triaging support tickets, escalating more complex issues
- Supporting new starter setups, device provisioning, and user access

You’ll also ideally have:
- Some experience in office administration
- Exposure to finance admin or Level 1 IT support (advantageous, not essential)
- Intermediate computer skills across systems and databases
